Page 1

This is a simple, straightforward web page. Only HTML-4 is used, with no frames, no style sheets, and no scripting (so if you look at the html source, you can see what's going on).

None of the information on this page is protected from copying by the user. In particular, the sound file can be copied to the user's computer by simply right-clicking the link and selecting 'Save Link As...' (or equivalent).

When you click the link to the sound file, the browser automatically opens a new page to start a player plug-in (like QuickTime) to play the sound. Note that this is a little awkward, because the user must click the browser's 'back' button to return to this page after the sound clip is finished.

We start with a simple greeting ...

Peace be unto you.

and then in Arabic ...

السلام عليكم

with a link to a sound file.

Notes

  1. The HTML used for the sound is a simple anchor:
     <a href="fwas01vr.wav">here</a>

  2. This sound file uses compressed .wav format to minimize download time.

  3. You can use any suitable audio format—or even a video with sound—but you need to be sure that each user will have a plug-in that is capable of playing your chosen format.

  4. Also, you should be aware that not all .wav files are compressed. Sometimes, .wav files can be very large. Another popular audio format is .mp3, which is always compressed.
